Steve Kim’s newest collection of work explores the dynamics of interpersonal relationships both autobiographically through models and acquaintances, and fictionally through horror cinema.
Tension attaches itself to longing; a cycle of attraction and repulsion permeates the work. Figures find themselves in liminal spaces where love, hate, contempt, and adoration weave and split into eachother.
Union in its imperfection grows and overgrows; pillars of strength cast long shadows. In these figures we see the fraught nature of simple connection to one another; through that pushing, pulling, and twisting shapes emerge, forms, voids, and inferences that can be intuited only as love.
