Kim Kei is a Los Angeles-based visual artist. Born in Corpus Christi, she attended the University of Arizona and eventually received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003 where she first began to explore her unique artistic process. Her work incorporates elements of sculpture, printmaking, painting, and photography in order to evoke sensations of vulnerability, invasiveness and tenderness towards the body. Using an involved process multidisciplinary process, her work serves to allegorically capture the body's acquired marks though time, injury, repair, and illness in the hopes of creating an environment for empathy and reconciliation, to strike through the form to reveal what has been
Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions internationally and domestically including solo shows at the Irvine Fine Arts Center (Irvine, CA) Brandstater Gallery (Riverside, CA), and Alter Space (San Francisco, CA). She has also attended several prestigious artist residencies at Instinc Singapore, Mass MoCa, and the Irvine Fine Arts Center.
