James Mountford is a Los Angeles-based visual artist and photographer. Born in England, he began studying fine art at the University for the Creative Arts before moving to Rome where his attention turned to photography. After honing his photographic practice he returned to London where he gradually established himself as an internationally acclaimed fashion photographer collaborating with the likes of Elle, Vogue, Dior, Helmut Lang, and Swarovski.
Eventually his interests would lead him to abandon fashion and return to his fine art origins culminating in his first solo exhibition “Female” and book release which featured a body of work that would come to represent his signature practice of dim lighting, self-made cameras, and the rejection of post production and photoshop. Since his London debut, he has exhibited widely in Los Angeles including group and solo shows, and also played an integral role in the creation of the immersive Chronicles of LA popup exhibition.
